MARK:
Texas was a letter to
Hamlet, my crazy dog;
it didn't' make much sense
so
grant suggested a different
rhythm, but I couldn't
do it so Grant sang the
first
part. I kept the break
and then we came together
in the end. I don't
think
the part that Grant sings
is about my dog even though
I think he liked
Hamlet.
Hamlet was never in Texas
although I think he would
have liked it
because
they have a lot in common.
GRANT:
Didn't know that was ever
about Hamlet, but the
hand I lent to
finishing
that song seems to work
just the same. From where
I sit right now,
on
my front porch -- Kansas,
mid-June, that feels like
the most vital song on
the
record. It's an important
song for Mark and me together
and alone -- and
I
did like Hamlet.
